Local Genie is an AI-powered, multimodal assistant designed to simplify one of life’s most complex decisions: choosing where to live, work, or visit. Instead of sifting through fragmented sources like maps, reviews, and property sites, users can rely on Local Genie to deliver trusted, personalized insights in one place.

Over the course of eight weeks, our team was tasked with collaborating, designing, and developing a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that could be pitched to potential stakeholders. This process involved conducting user research, defining the problem space, ideating solutions, and iterating through prototypes to arrive at a functional concept.

Problem Statement

Choosing where to live or visit is harder than ever. Information is fragmented across maps, property listings, review platforms, and data dashboards, while generic assistants provide shallow, one-time answers without meaningful context. This leaves people spending hours piecing things together, overlooking important details, and ultimately falling back on word-of-mouth to make major life decisions.

User interviews were conducted of people who have had experience relocating, and here is what we found.

Key Findings:

  • Students and professionals look for affordability, social life, and career opportunities.

  • Gig workers and travelers need quick, trustworthy local insights for short stays.

  • Real estate professionals value precise, trusted data for client confidence.

We then analyzed the user interviews and pain points, then matched up the pain points to the potential features the Product Managers envisioned for the app to see what to prioritize
